Within the first semester of my freshmen year, both coaches that convinced me to come to W&M left for other schools, and I faced injuries that would keep me off the track for almost two years.
It would have been easy to call it quits right there. It was tempting to follow those coaches and look for another school, but I never did. In my lowest moments, this team picked me up and told me that I belong here. This team is what made me believe in the tribe, and the family that W&M claims to cherish above all else.
But now our own school is telling us that's a lie, and that none of us belong here. These students embody the spirit of the tribe, and to think the school is better off without them is a betrayal of W&M's character.
