The William & Mary Athletic Department made the decision to eliminate Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. They did not alert coaches, athletes, or alumni prior to this decision that the program was at risk. Our goal is to spread awareness of the mistreatment of this team by the current administration, and encourage financial pledges to support the reinstatement of the Men's Track & Field Team by the College of William & Mary.

On the Track

William & Mary’s Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field has been a staple at the college, given both teams’ rich history in achieving the highest degree of success in competition, academics, and service. Nationally, men’s track & field boasts 2 world records, 2 American indoor records, two NCAA National Champions, 53 NCAA All-Americans, and five sub-4 minute milers. Men’s track & field has been crowned conference champions 35 times. In their years after wearing the Tribe uniform, men’s track & field athletes were named to an Olympic Team, set an American record, won eight national championships, represented Team USA 32 times, and qualified for the Olympic Trials 41 times.

In the Classroom

The Men’s Track & Field team prides itself in its emphasis on academics, and the accolades speak for themselves. The team is home to 17 Phi Beta Kappa inductees, 62 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Academic All-Americans, 7 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 2 Rhodes Scholars, 1 Fulbright Scholar, and 1 Goldwater Scholar. Additionally, ten men’s track & field teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic.

In our Community

Men’s Track & Field consistently participates in community services activities, simultaneously strengthening the bond between William & Mary and the Williamsburg community and developing character in the young men on the team. Every year, track & field hosts and fundraises for a charity 5K race for the Massey Cancer Center, most recently raising over $22K in 2019. The team consistently participates in the SAAC Harvest basket initiative, donating and collecting baskets of food and hygiene products to deliver to local organizations. Athletes also regularly attend One Child Center for Autism’s Kids’ Night, giving children with autism the opportunity to meet college athletes and enjoy a night of fun. After leaving Williamsburg, our alumni have gone on to be leaders of their field in business, public service, education, athletics, medicine and law just to name a few. Our valued alumni continue to give back to the William & Mary community by contributing and volunteering their time and expertise.
